The Town of Scott held its 2020 Annual Town Meeting on Wednesday, April 22, at 5 PM, at the Scott Town Hall, 28788 Buckley Avenue. The following people were present at the town meeting: Chuck Huffman, Dan Draeger, Henry Van Wychen, Paul Shepherd, Jim Van Wychen, Nodji Van Wychen, Mary Shepherd, Larry Johnson, Jack Potter and Lorry Erickson.
Chairman Chuck Huffman called the meeting to order and Clerk Jim Van Wychen read the minutes of 2019 Annual Town Meeting. Dan Draeger moved and Nodji Van Wychen seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the 2019 Annual Town Meeting. Motion passed.
Clerk Jim Van Wychen gave the financial report. The town spent $88,147.45 on town road maintenance and construction for 2019. The road expenses included $19,027.00 spent on snowplowing and $64,361.00 on road construction. The amounts spent on road maintenance and construction will help the township receive the maximum highway aids available to us from the state. Henry Van Wychen moved and Paul Shepherd seconded motion to approve the 2019 financial report. Motion passed.
Nodji Van Wychen moved and Paul Shepherd seconded a motion to designate Timberwood Bank/Bank First as the depository for the town for 2020. Motion passed.
Road work for 2019 included work on Drake Avenue and Copper Road. A discussion was held on future town roadwork needs. Nodji Van Wychen moved and Henry Van Wychen seconded a motion to authorize town board to do town road maintenance and construction as they deem necessary. Motion passed.
Dan Draeger moved and Paul Shepherd seconded motion to approve liquor license to Van Wychen Wines for 2020. Motion passed.
Nodji Van Wychen gave a report on the Pine Grove Cemetery in our township. There will be no Memorial Day Service this year due to COVID-19. The Pine Grove Cemetery Association annual meeting will be held on Monday, May 18, 2020, at 4 PM, at the Scott Town Hall. Henry Van Wychen moved and Paul Shepherd seconded a motion to give the cemetery association $500 toward maintenance at cemetery and up to three loads of gravel, if needed. Motion passed.
A discussion was held on the town’s ATV/UTV ordinance. All town roads would be open to ATV and UTV vehicles under the ordinance. The town board will approve the new ordinance at the monthly town board meeting.
The Clean Sweep Program sponsored by Monroe County was cancelled for this spring. The county’s Fall Clean Sweep will be expanded to a Friday afternoon and Saturday event. More details will be published later.
Dates for 2020 Open Book and Board of Review meetings are not set yet due to COVID-19. The date for the 2021 Annual Town meeting will be the end of April 2021. The date will be published when set after the town board elections next year.
