The Town of Scott held its January board meeting on Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, at 5 p.m., at the home of Town Clerk Jim Van Wychen. Board members present were Chuck Huffman, Henry Van Wychen, Paul Shepherd and Jim Van Wychen. Supervisor Dane Pasch was absent. Also present were Mary Shepherd, Nodji Van Wychen, Lorry Erickson and Larry Johnson.
Chairman Chuck Huffman called the meeting to order and Clerk Jim Van Wychen read the minutes of the December 2021 board meeting. Minutes approved as read.
Treasurer Paul Shepherd gave the treasurer’s report. Real estate tax collections are over half collected. The town will receive over $40,000 additional revenue due to the increase from Payment in Lieu of Taxes on public lands within the township. This occurred because the of Act 58 passed by the state legislature. We also received our first quarter payment of state highway aids. Supervisor Henry Van Wychen moved and Chuck Huffman seconded a motion to accept treasurer’s report and file for audit. Motion passed,
Larry Johnson gave the town road report. Roads are being plowed and sanded as needed. Larry will also prepare an estimate to brush some of the town roads.
Henry Van Wychen moved and Chuck Huffman seconded a motion to join the Warrens Area Business Association for the 2022 calendar year for $30. Motion passed.
The Broadband Forward and Telecommuter Forward resolutions were discussed. These are needed to show support for the Monroe County Broadband Committee request for grants to expand fiber internet in the county. Chairman Chuck Huffman moved and Henry Van Wychen seconded the motion to support the two resolutions. Motion passed.
We continuing to do training on our new ICE voting machine. Once we get our election workers trained, we will plan an open house to give town residents the opportunity to practice using the new election voting machine. We do not have a primary in February so the first election we will be using the new voting machine at will be the April 5, 2022, Spring General Election.
For public input Nodji Van Wychen mentioned the Rolling Hills Nursing home in Sparta is on schedule to open in August of 2022. Elections for Monroe County district supervisors will be held on the April election. Of the 16 districts, eight will have new non-incumbent members.
The next board meeting is set for Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022, at 5 p.m., at the home of Clerk Jim Van Wychen. Henry Van Wychen moved and Chuck Huffman seconded motion to adjourn town board meeting. Motion passed.
