The Town of Scott held its January board meeting on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, at 5 PM at the home of Town Clerk Jim Van Wychen. All board members present along with Mary Shepherd, Jack Potter, Carol Huffman, Nodji Van Wychen and Larry Johnson.
Chairman Chuck Huffman called the meeting to order. Clerk Jim Van Wychen read the minutes of the December 2022 board minutes. Minutes approved as read.
Treasurer Paul Shepherd gave his report. Over half of the real estate taxes have been collected so far. Forty of the township’s 72 taxpayers have paid already. Paul transferred $30,000 from checking back to the Money Market account. We also received our first of four state highway aids payments earlier this month. The highway aids payment is $18,010.22. David Potter moved and Henry Van Wychen seconded a motion to approve treasurer’s report and file for audit. Motion passed.
Larry Johnson gave the roads report. Because of snow and ice storm at the end of December more sand-and-salt mix was used compared to a typical year. Wetherby Cranberry gave twenty loads of sand to the Town of Lincoln for mixing with salt to replenish supply. Road signs for Copper Road will be ordered tomorrow.
A discussion was held on the Wisconsin Towns Association district meeting on Feb. 24 in Tomah. The town will have two board members attend. Also, a discussion was held on Board of Review training. One board member has to be certified each year to be able to conduct the town’s Board of Review. Have to get more information before this year’s Board of Review which is held at the end of May.
The Town of Lincoln Fire Department is setting up fire district for the Village of Warrens and the five townships that they provide services to currently. The meeting is Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 6 PM at the Town of Lincoln Fire Station. Chuck, David and Henry are planning to attend.
There will be a Primary election for the State Supreme Court on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Trey Gnewikow will be chief inspector and Paul Shepherd and Nodji Van Wychen are election clerks. There will be a spring general election on Tuesday, April 4. Trey will be chief inspector and Jamie Potter and Nodji Van Wychen are election clerks.
The Monroe County unit of the Wisconsin Towns Association will meet on Thursday, Feb. 16.
The next Town of Scott board meeting will be on Monday, Feb. 13, at 5 PM, at the home of the Town Clerk, 3365 Auger Road, Warrens.
