The Town of Scott held its January board meeting on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at 5 PM, at the home of Town Clerk Jim Van Wychen. Board members present: Henry Van Wychen, David Potter, Kade Gnewikow and Jim Van Wychen. Others present: Larry Johnson and Nodji Van Wychen.

Chairman Henry Van Wychen called the meeting to order. Jim Van Wychen read the minutes of the December 2023 board meeting. Minutes approved as read.

Treasurer Paul Shepherd was not present but he emailed a printed copy of the treasurer’s report. Tax collections are coming in. We have received our first state highway aids payment. We received an invoice from the Town of Lincoln for a share of the deficit from the operation of the Town of Lincoln garbage and recycling center. Our portion of the shortfall is $1,916.80. David Potter moved and Kade Gnewikow seconded motion to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion passed.

Larry Johnson gave the town road report. He has been doing snowplowing and sanding. He said Cory Haze is cutting timber along Crescent Road and will stack the wood along road right-of-way.  Henry Van Wychen, David Potter and Jim Van Wychen met with representatives from Sandhill Wildlife Refuge on Jan. 10 to discuss the trees leaning in the right of way along Copper Road by Dead Creek. The DNR will draw up an agreement as to what we can do along that stretch of road.  Henry Van Wychen is checking on what we can do to cut the brush along some of our town roads. We will get quotes on the cost of renting a machine or contracting with a company. The clerk will check with our insurance company in regards to renting a machine.

A discussion was held on the American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) funds being used to upgrade the town hall.  Things we are considering on doing include a new ramp to the front door, new steps for the side door, a metal roof and chemical toilet for the town hall.

David Potter gave a report on the Warrens Fire District meeting he attended. The fire district includes the Towns of Lincoln, Scott, Grant, Knapp and Bear Bluff and Village of Warrens. The fire district will be a public entity. It was decided that David Potter will be our representative on the fire district.

The next election we will have is the Spring General Election on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Next town board meeting is Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at 5PM, at the town clerk’s home.

Kade Gnewikow moved and David Potter seconded motion to adjourn January board meeting. Motion passed.
