The Town of Scott held its January board meeting on Monday, January 17, 2017, at 4 PM at home of Town Clerk Jim Van Wychen. All board members present along with Nodji Van Wychen, Lorry Erickson, Jack Potter and Larry Johnson.
Town Chairman Chuck Huffman called the meeting to order and Jim Van Wychen read the minutes of December board meeting. Minutes approved as read. Paul Shepherd gave the treasurer’s report. Tax collections are coming in ahead of last year. Supervisor Dan Draeger moved and Supervisor Henry Van Wychen seconded a motion to approve treasurer’s report and file for audit. Motion passed.
Larry Johnson gave the town road report. Larry was having problems with some town residents plowing snow across the town roads and leaving snow banks on edge of road which freeze and make it difficult to widen out road. The board agreed to have Lorry Erickson put two documents on the town website explaining placement of mail boxes and the plowing of snow in the right of way of roads and fines associated with it.
For public input Nodji Van Wychen explained the status of hiring of a new Monroe County Highway Commissioner.
The town is getting advice from General Engineering Company on how to proceed with a raze order on the Monte Gebhardt property on Crescent Road.
There will be a Wisconsin Town Association-Monroe County Unit meeting sponsored by the Town of Byron at the American Legion Hall in Tomah on February 16, 2017. Other upcoming events include: Monroe County Economic Development Summit at Three Bears Lodge on Feb 22 – 23, and Friday March 24 will be the Wisconsin Towns Association District Meeting in Tomah.
February 21, 2017, is the primary election for Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction. General Election will be held on April 4, 2017.
The next town board meeting will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017, at 6 PM at the Scott Hall Town Hall.
The Town of Scott then went into its Caucus Meeting for selection of town officer candidates for the 2017 to 2019 term. Lorry Erickson was appointed chairwoman of caucus. Nominations were opened for chairman. Dan Draeger moved and Henry Van Wychen seconded nomination of Chuck Huffman for chairman. Seeing no other nominations Jack Potter moved to close nominations and cast unanimous ballot for Chuck Huffman, seconded Nodji Van Wychen. Motion passed.
Nominations for Supervisor 1 were opened. Chuck Huffman moved and Jack Potter seconded nomination of Dan Draeger for Supervisor 1. Seeing no other nominations Chuck Huffman moved to close nominations and cast unanimous ballot for Dan Draeger for Supervisor 1, seconded by Paul Shepherd. Motion passed.
Nominations for Supervisor 2 were opened. Chuck Huffman moved and Jack Potter seconded motion to nominate Henry Van Wychen for Supervisor 2. Seeing no other nominations Jack Potter moved to close nominations and cast unanimous ballot for Henry Van Wychen for Supervisor 2. Chuck Huffman seconded. Motion passed.
Nominations for Clerk were opened. Dan Draeger moved and Jack Potter seconded nomination of Jim Van Wychen for Clerk. Seeing no other nominations Chuck Huffman moved to close nominations and cast unanimous ballot for Jim Van Wychen for Clerk, seconded by Jack Potter. Motion passed.
Nominations for Treasurer were opened. Chuck Huffman moved and Henry Van Wychen seconded a motion to nominate Paul Shepherd for treasurer. Seeing no other nominations, Jim Van Wychen moved to close nominations and cast unanimous ballot for Paul Shepherd for treasurer, seconded by Jack Potter. Motion passed.
Henry Van Wychen moved to adjourn Caucus and Town meeting, seconded by Dan Draeger. Motion passed.
