The Town of Scott held its 2017 Annual Town Meeting at 6 PM on Monday, April 24, 2017, at the Scott Town Hall. All board members signed their oath of office. Re-elected at the Spring Election were: Chairman Chuck Huffman, Supervisor No. 1 Dan Draeger, Supervisor No. 2 Henry Van Wychen, Treasurer Paul Shepherd and Clerk Jim Van Wychen. Besides the town board members, other town residents attending meeting were: Jack Potter, Lorry Erickson, Mary Shepherd and Nodji Van Wychen. Also attending was Larry Johnson.
Chairman Chuck Huffman called the meeting to order and the first order of business was to have Cindy Zahrte, Tomah School Superintendent give a presentation on what the Tomah School District is doing. The Tomah School District real estate tax mill rate dropped from $8.51 to $8.46 for the 2017 tax year. Starting July 18, 2017, the Lemonweir Elementary School will be going to a year-round school with 45 days in session and 15 days off. On May 7, 2017, the Tomah High School will celebrate 50 years at the current high school. A distinguished alumni award is being instituted.
Jim Van Wychen read the minutes of the 2016 Annual meeting. Dan Draeger moved and Jack Potter seconded a motion to approve last year’s annual town meeting minutes. Motion passed.
Paul Shepherd and Jim Van Wychen reviewed some of the financial data for 2016. The town spent enough on road maintenance and repair to get maximum state highway aids. Discussion was held on how much of the Copper Road widening we will be able to get done with the budget we have for 2017. One half mile of Drake Avenue also needs to be reconstructed. Jack Potter moved and Lorry Erickson seconded a motion to authorize town board to do whatever roadwork they deem necessary. Motion passed.
Lorry Erickson moved and Jack Potter seconded motion to use Timberwood Bank as our bank depository. Motion passed.
Dan Draeger moved and Paul Shepherd seconded a motion to approve a liquor license for Van Wychen Wines Inc. Motion passed.
A discussion was held on the Pine Grove Cemetery and our financial commitment to them. Henry Van Wychen moved and Mary Shepherd seconded a motion to donate $500 toward the cemetery maintenance. Motion passed.
For public input Nodji Van Wychen explained that Monroe County will be finishing County EW from the bridge by Wetherby Cranberry Company to Warrens (junction with Main Street) sometime this summer before September 1.
Open Book is set for May 4, 2017, from 3pm to 5pm, and Board of Review is scheduled for May 26, 2017, from 8am to 10am, both at the Scott Town Hall.
Dan Draeger moved and Jack Potter seconded a motion to set the 2018 annual town meeting for Monday, April 16, 2018, at 6pm at the Scott Town Hall and to adjourn the 2017 Town of Scott annual meeting. Motion passed.
