The Town of Scott held its February board meeting on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019, at 5:30 PM, at the home of Town Clerk Jim Van Wychen. All board members present along with Jack Potter, Lorry Erickson, Nodji Van Wychen, Mary Shepherd and Larry Johnson. Also present was Tomah Area Schools Superintendent Cindy Zarhte.
Town Chairman Chuck Huffman called the meeting to order. Cindy Zahrte was introduced and given the floor to explain about the school referendum that will be on ballot of the April 2 Spring Election. She also gave an overview how the Tomah Area School District is operating and answered questions about the referendum and school district.
Clerk Jim Van Wychen read the minutes of January 2019 town board meeting. Minutes approved as read. Treasurer Paul Shepherd gave the town treasurer’s report. The town is able to pay half ($10,000) of the Scott Construction bill from last year. Snow removal for this past month was over $6,600. Supervisor Dan Draeger moved and Henry Van Wychen seconded a motion to approve treasurer’s report and file for audit. Motion passed.
Larry Johnson gave the town road report. Snowplowing or sanding has been done almost every other day this past month. We should have enough sand and salt for the season.
Chuck Huffman will plan to attend the Wisconsin Towns Association District meeting Saturday, March 16, at Three Bears Resort in Warrens. On Sunday, March 10, the Monroe County Solid Waste Department is holding an information meeting at the Sparta American Legion to explain the county’s recycling program and their new leachate system.
For public input, Monroe County Supervisor Nodji Van Wychen shared that the county has hired a new Land Use Planner. She will be assisting townships with their land use plans. Larry Johnson is having the Town of Lincoln clerk send another copy of our fire contract for 2019. The fire contract fee for 2019 is $8115.75. Supervisor Henry Van Wychen moved and Dan Draeger seconded a motion to approve 2019 fire contract. Motion passed.
Chuck Huffman attended the Wisconsin Towns Association county unit meeting. New County Sheriff Wes Revels was there and explained the lighting requirements for Amish vehicles. Also discussed were the DNR and Managed Forest Lands.
April 2 is the Spring General Election at the town hall from 7 AM to 8 PM. The next town board meeting is Monday, March 18, at 5:30 p.m., at the town clerk’s home. The annual town meeting will be held on Tuesday April 23, at 5:30 PM, at the Scott Town Hall with the monthly town board meeting to follow. Henry Van Wychen moved and Dan Draeger seconded a motion to adjourn the February town meeting. Motion passed.
