The Town of Scott held its August board meeting on Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, at 5 PM, at the Scott Town Hall. All board members present along with Mary Shepherd, Nodji Van Wychen and Larry Johnson.
Chairman Henry Van Wychen called the meeting to order. Secretary Jim Van Wychen read the minutes of the July board meeting. Minutes approved as read.
Treasurer Paul Shepherd gave the treasurer’s report. The town received its tax settlement from the county. We have one more state highway aids payment coming in October and our revenue sharing payment at the end of November. Supervisor David Potter moved and Supervisor Kade Gnewikow seconded motion to approve treasurer’s report and file for audit. Motion passed.
Larry Johnson gave the town road report. He replaced the culvert on Coyote Avenue, mowed the town roads, cleared brush from town roads after the recent storm and has replaced most of the town road signs. He will also replace the speed limit sign on Crescent Road by junction with state Highway 173.
The town chairman is working with the logger who damaged access to Copper Road. Henry also has contacted Town of Byron Chairman Al Bernhardt about them taking over the section of Drake Avenue that borders the Towns of Scott and Byron. Kade Gnewikow moved and David Potter seconded motion to approve town road report. Motion Passed.
Two building permits were issued this last month: one to Masson Messner and one to Todd Potter.
The town clerk explained that the town should have an emergency plan as part of our comprehensive plan. He will present at our September board meeting. Jim will also attend the Tomah Area Ambulance meeting on Aug. 31.
For public input Nodji Van Wychen explained the county will hold a fall Clean Sweep on Saturday, Sept. 16, but only limited items will be accepted at the fall event. No hazard waste, paint, fluorescent light bulbs, etc., will be accepted.
The following meeting dates were set:
- September Town Board Meeting – Sept. 11, 5 p.m., Scott Town Hall.
- November Town Board Meeting & 2024 Annual Budget Meeting – Nov. 13, 5 p.m., Scott Town Hall.
NOTE: The Town Board does not meet in October.
