Town of Scott Named in Honor of Andrew Scott
The Town of Scott is named in honor of Andrew Scott and his wife Caroline who settled in the township in 1850.
Andrew Scott was born June 11, 1825, in Glascow, Scotland.
He immigrated to America as a young man and first lived in the Milwaukee area. There he met Caroline Cole, who had come to America from England. After they were married the couple lived in the New Lisbon area where Andrew was in the logging business.
After exhausting the supply of logs in that area, Andrew bought land in the Town of Scott in northeastern Monroe County. Andrew operated logging camps during the winter months with Caroline doing the cooking for the men.
The first house the couple built was a log home on what it now Potter Cranberry Company. In 1888, Andrew sold the house and 80 acres of land to his nephew Archibald Scott and his wife Anne.
Andrew built a larger house located near the intersection of county Highway EW and Auburn Road. The couple had three children: Alma, Della and James.
The Monroe County Plat Book of 1897 showed Andrew owned nearly 565 acres of land in the Town of Scott.
