The Town of Scott held its February Town Board Meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, at 5 PM, at the home of Town Clerk Jim Van Wychen, 3365 Auger Road, Warrens, Wis.  All board members present along town residents Mary Voltz and Nodji Van Wychen and Dan Hornack of D&H Tree Service.

Chairman Henry Van Wychen called the meeting order at 5 PM. Clerk Jim Van Wychen read the minutes of the January town board meeting. Minutes approved as read.

Treasurer Paul Shepherd gave the treasurer’s report. Paul will be settling up tax collections with the county on Feb. 13, 2025. After the tax settlements, the Town of Scott will have about $73,296.00 in our town account. Supervisor Kade Gnewikow moved to approve treasurer’s report and file for audit. Supervisor Tonya Gnewikow seconded motion. Motion Approved

Larry Johnson was not present to give road report. Due to the Agricultural Road Improvement Program (ARIP) project on Copper Road, the board doesn’t plan on doing any other major road projects in 2025. Svet Roussev, engineer for the ARIP road project could not make the meeting tonight. He met with Chairman Henry Van Wychen, Supervisor Kade Gnewikow and Clerk Jim Van Wychen on Tuesday, Feb. 11. A discussion was held on what portion of Copper Road will be done in 2025. It was decided to do project over three years. In 2025 the 2-mile section of Copper Road from County Highway EW to Buckley Avenue will be reconstructed with a 1 percent grade and a 2 percent crown in the road.  That portion of the project will start in June and be completed by the first week of September. No hot mix will be applied for one year so road can set up.

The time table for the project this spring is:

  • April 9, 2025 – sanction for bids
  • April 16, 2025 – 1st publications of request for bids
  • April23, 2025 – 2nd publication of request for bids
  • April 30, 2025 – walk through with pre-bid contractors
  • May 7, 2025 – 10 AM close bid process and open bids
  • May 14, 2025 – award bids to lowest responsible bidder

Dan Hornack explained to the board what his tree cutting service does. The town needs to remove trees along the Copper Road in the ARIP grant area. Kade Gnewikow moved and Tonya Gnewikow seconded a motion to hire D&H Tree Service to do tree removal along Copper Road for five days to be done before March 15, 2025. Motion passed.

A discussion was held on when Larry Johnson should be plowing snow and sanding town roads. It was decided that the town board will meet with Larry to talk about that and request he confer with the board before any town road maintenance is done.

A discussion was held about the Town of Scott supporting the BEAD grant proposal by Lnyxx Networks for supplying high speed fiber internet to the town residents.  Tonya Gnewikow moved and Kade Gnewikow seconded a motion to send a letter of support to Lynxx Networks to provide high speed fiber internet to the Town of Scott residents. Motion passed

The Spring Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, at the Scott Town Hall from 7 AM to 8 PM. The ballot includes contests for Tomah School Board and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

The next Town Board Meeting is Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 5 PM, at the Town Clerk’s home, 3365 Auger Road.

Kade Gnewikow moved and Henry Van Wychen seconded a motion to adjourn the February 2025 town board meeting. Motion passed.
